Give a Man a Fish, Feed him for a Day

When I get depressed, I get this urge to buy people dinner.

I guess the act of providing food for others is such a guaranteed way to gain at least their temporary appreciation, so that at least for the span of the meal, I feel like people actually like me.

I do that but with art supplies and cigarettes I tend to give a lot away because I feel like since the recession that I've had it better than a lot of people I know so I let them borrow or have it if they need it.

it's the general nice nature taking over

It doesn't count in a way that matters, but you know alot of people adore your artistic stylings. And I enjoy talking to you, on the few occasions we're in chat at the same time.

Hmn. You're far more generous than me when you're depressed. I usually horde some lardy sweet goodies and chow down while reading or playing games for several hours.
