First, an explanation.

I love Anime Music Videos (AMVs), and I think that they're one of the best phenomena to come out of the fandom. If I do nothing at all, at any con I attend, I still make sure to see the AMV competition.

As the years have gone by, anime increased in popularity and access to video-editing software went through the roof, leading into a massive upswing in AMVs with insane visual editing. However, that does not necessarily mean that they have all been GOOD AMVs. Much like its predecessor in Photoshop, "LensFlare Abuse Syndrome", there is a new epidemic scorching its way across the AMV community, which I call "Death By Editing." Symptoms of "Death By Editing" include excessive lighting or color-alteration effects, gimmicky wipes (stars, puzzle pieces, etc), schizophrenic jump cuts, excessive or out-of-character lip synchs, and general lack of attention to concept and original show plotlines.

The latest offender is [link] "Skittles", a Haruhi Suzumiya AMV by Koopiskeva. Now, Haruhi is a pretty crazy show on its own, but I honestly had NO idea what was the purpose of this AMV was, aside from showing off those Adobe After Effects skills. And bunnygirl outfits. After a while, I wasn't so much tasting the rainbow as I was choking on it. So I drew this picture as a follow up.

Irrespective of my opinion of the AMV, I still give big props to Koops, who is undeniably an awesome editor.

Hoof, yeah, that's some video! So many freaking effects...in which way it is rather like most Japanese television I've seen.

Myself, I find that the simpler the AMV, the better. [link] I rather like this one, whose only effects seem to be fading to black, fading to white, and overlapping.

Very amusing picture, it made me laugh. Love the eyes on the monitor. Barf the rainbow!

It was inevitable that our computers would do this in response to the seizure-inducing colors and lights that go into some of those things.

Hehe, a friend just linked me to this. Nice.

PS - Skittles was made almost entirely using Photoshop. After Effects was not used. |:
